To provide public access to geospatial datasets and mapping services that support water resource management, environmental planning, scientific research, and decision-making across South Florida.
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Geospatial Open Data Portal is the District's official ArcGIS Hub platform for distributing GIS datasets, web applications, and mapping services. The portal supports SFWMD's responsibilities under Florida's Water Resources Act (Chapter 373, Florida Statutes) by providing geospatial information for water supply planning, flood protection, floodplain management, water quality protection, ecosystem restoration, and natural resource conservation. It serves government agencies, researchers, consultants, and the public.
The portal provides downloadable geospatial datasets, interactive applications, and mapping services organized into eight thematic categories: Boundaries, Environmental, Geology & Geophysics, Hydrography, Land Resources, Land Use/Land Cover, Permitting/Regulatory, and Water Supply. Users can access interactive applications for environmental monitoring, flood information, water reuse infrastructure, saltwater interface mapping, resilience metrics, Quick Maps, and local water control district information. Featured datasets include Compliance Monitoring and Tracking (CMT) stations, water use, Kissimmee River vegetation, saltwater interface data (2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024), AHED water control structures, DBHYDRO wells and boreholes, and the 2021–2023 SFWMD Land Cover/Land Use dataset. The portal also provides links to hydrologic, groundwater, meteorological, LiDAR, aerial imagery, and other statewide geospatial resources.
Datasets are developed through hydrologic monitoring, groundwater investigations, environmental monitoring, engineering surveys, GIS mapping, remote sensing, land cover mapping, infrastructure inventories, permitting activities, and ecosystem management programs conducted by SFWMD. Monitoring information is integrated with the District's DBHYDRO database, while spatial datasets are published through ArcGIS Hub as downloadable GIS layers, feature services, and interactive web applications.
