The platform is maintained by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality through its Division of Water Resources (DWR). It serves as a centralized access point for water-related environmental data, regulatory records, GIS tools, water monitoring systems, drought information, and state water management resources. The platform provides extensive water resource data, mapping applications, monitoring systems, statistical resources, and modeling tools related to water management in North Carolina. It includes interactive mapping tools such as the DWR Map Locator Tool, Animal Feeding Operations Facility Map, drought status maps, environmental permit application tracker, hydrologic unit code (HUC) locator, groundwater management maps, impaired waters maps, interbasin transfer maps, surface water classifications, water supply watershed maps, non-discharge facility maps, NPDES wastewater facility maps, source water assessment maps, wetlands permitting maps, wetlands with public access maps, and the Water Resources Information Storage Analysis and Retrieval System (WRISARS). The platform also contains water quality data search tools, public water system reports, drinking water monitoring systems through Drinking Water Watch, certified laboratory information, local water supply planning resources, water withdrawal and transfer registration records, groundwater level monitoring data, drought indicator well data, county and river basin drought summaries, water shortage response plans, groundwater database access, hydrologic and groundwater modeling tools, statistical datasets on water withdrawals, and multiple environmental monitoring resources supporting statewide water resource management and regulatory oversight.
Data is collected through statewide environmental monitoring programs operated by the Division of Water Resources, including field sampling programs, groundwater monitoring wells, water quality laboratories, drought monitoring systems, permit compliance inspections, and environmental reporting systems. Information is integrated into GIS mapping applications, environmental databases, statistical reporting systems, and public monitoring dashboards for regulatory oversight and resource management.
