To provide public access to geospatial datasets related to Maine’s hydrology, hydrography, coastal waters, marine environments, and water-related environmental resources
The platform is managed through the Maine GeoLibrary using the ArcGIS Hub infrastructure. It serves as a centralized repository for statewide geographic data related to inland waters, marine/coastal systems, fisheries, water quality, drainage systems, and hydrographic mapping. The portal is part of Maine’s effort to improve open access to environmental and geospatial information for planning and decision-making.
The portal includes marine and coastal datasets such as MaineDEP Head of Tide data, highest astronomical tide stations, sea-level rise and storm-surge scenarios, SLOSH hurricane inundation models, coastal bathymetric lidar data, shoreline mapping resources, and coastal flooding hazard datasets. Ecological and marine monitoring resources include seagrass mapping datasets from multiple years, eelgrass distribution change analysis, marine vegetation monitoring programs, aquaculture lease locations, limited purpose aquaculture sites, sea surface temperature monitoring stations, marine habitat assessments, tidal waterfowl and wading bird habitat datasets, fisheries spawning habitat datasets, and heritage fish waters.
The platform uses ArcGIS Hub geospatial infrastructure to collect, manage, organize, and distribute datasets produced by multiple environmental monitoring and research programs. Data collection methods combine GIS mapping technologies, remote sensing, satellite imagery analysis, hydrological modeling, watershed delineation techniques, hydrographic surveying, field-based ecological monitoring, fisheries habitat surveys, marine vegetation mapping, lidar-based coastal elevation measurements, sea level monitoring systems, salinity sampling, and coastal environmental assessments.
