The Connecticut Open Data Portal is the official statewide open data platform managed by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management in collaboration with state agencies. The portal serves as a centralized repository for publicly accessible government datasets covering multiple sectors, including a dedicated Environment and Natural Resources category. Environmental datasets are contributed primarily by agencies such as the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) and are made available to support environmental governance, public access to information, and evidence-based decision-making
The portal includes a broad range of environmental and natural resource datasets covering water resources, biodiversity conservation, environmental quality, land management, infrastructure, and geospatial reference data. Some of the available resources include surface water quality classifications datasets describing designated uses and water quality standards for rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands, coastal waters, and groundwater resources; water pollution control facilities data containing information on wastewater treatment plants, permit identifiers, facility classifications, and operational details; critical habitats and natural diversity database datasets identifying ecologically significant habitats, endangered and threatened species locations, and conservation priority areas; protected open space datasets containing protected land parcels designated for conservation, forestry, wildlife habitat protection, and recreation; coastal boundary and coastal management datasets
Data is collected and published by multiple Connecticut state agencies through administrative reporting systems, environmental monitoring programs, regulatory compliance reporting, incident reporting systems, environmental inspections, GIS mapping services, agency operational databases, and government information management systems. The platform is built on Socrata Open Data infrastructure, allowing datasets to be continuously updated, queried through APIs, downloaded in multiple formats, filtered online, and integrated into analytical tools for external use. Some datasets are updated daily, monthly, or according to agency reporting cycles depending on the underlying source system
