To provide comprehensive water, climate, hydrological, and environmental data and information that support water resource management and environmental monitoring across the state of Illinois.
The platform is managed by the Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS) under the Prairie Research Institute. It serves as a centralized repository of long-term statewide environmental and water-related datasets designed to support researchers, policymakers, local communities, agricultural stakeholders, engineers, and environmental managers.
The platform includes datasets and mapping tools on climate and weather, surface water, flooding, drought, groundwater, water quality, and water use. Resources cover precipitation, temperature, soil moisture, streamflow statistics, watershed and lake maps, flood insurance rate maps (FIRMs), drought monitoring tools, water well records, aquifer maps, groundwater monitoring, sediment transport databases, river and groundwater quality databases, water withdrawal records, irrigation data, and elevation conversion maps.
Data is collected through statewide monitoring networks, climate observation stations, groundwater wells, field sampling programs, laboratory analysis, hydrological monitoring systems, and research projects. Information is processed through GIS platforms and scientific monitoring programs, including the WARM and CHAMP programs.
