The platform is part of the broader Iowa Water Information System and integrates monitoring efforts led by IIHR Hydroscience and Engineering, in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey.
The platform provides access to real-time water quality monitoring data and environmental information collected from water monitoring stations across Iowa. Available information includes nitrate concentrations, pH levels, dissolved oxygen concentrations, discharge rates, water temperature measurements, stream sensor data, water quality condition monitoring, live environmental observations, embedded monitoring widgets, downloadable data requests, monitoring dashboards, help tutorials, and interactive tools that support analysis of water conditions and water quality trends.
Data is collected through a network of automated water-quality monitoring sensors and stream-monitoring stations deployed across Iowa's water systems. Sensors continuously measure key water quality parameters, including chemical and physical indicators such as nitrate levels, dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, and discharge rates. The monitoring network transmits data to the IWQIS platform, where it is processed and displayed in real time through web-based dashboards, interactive visualization tools, and monitoring interfaces for public and research use.
