The dashboard is maintained by the New Mexico Office of the State Engineer (OSE) as part of the state's water information system. It serves as an interactive decision-support tool that combines GIS mapping with water resource datasets to provide a comprehensive overview of groundwater conditions throughout New Mexico.
The dashboard includes an interactive GIS map displaying monitored wells, active permitted wells, groundwater basins, point-of-diversion locations, recommended locations for new groundwater monitoring wells, and priority regions for groundwater monitoring expansion. It provides summary statistics on the total number of monitored wells and active permitted wells, groundwater level trends categorized as increasing, decreasing, steady, or having insufficient data, historical groundwater well permits issued by year, and statewide water use by sector measured in acre-feet. Water use is categorized into irrigated agriculture, public water supply, commercial, mining, livestock, domestic, and other uses. Users can filter data by project region and county while exploring the spatial distribution of groundwater resources across New Mexico.
The dashboard integrates authoritative datasets collected and maintained by the New Mexico Office of the State Engineer and related groundwater monitoring programs. Spatial information is displayed through an interactive GIS map that allows users to filter information by project region and county while viewing monitored wells, permitted wells, groundwater basins, point-of-diversion locations, and recommended groundwater monitoring sites.
