Dataset
To provide WASH indicator data for refugee camps and settlements, supporting assessment and analysis of water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and related service conditions across humanitarian settings
The data is specifically focused on refugee camps and settlements, making it useful for understanding WASH service conditions in displacement settings rather than general national or community-level WASH coverage. The records are aggregated at the site level and do not contain personal records or geographic coordinates
The dataset contains 6,425 observations and 27 variables, covering refugee camp or settlement locations, countries, reporting periods, and a range of WASH service indicators. These include the number of persons per usable handpump and tap water source, litres of potable water available per person per day, water-quality indicators for chlorinated and non-chlorinated sources, household toilet access, persons per toilet and shower, persons per hygiene promoter, refugee population, household water collection, potable water storage capacity, use of protected water sources, menstrual hygiene satisfaction, toilet use, access to soap, and access to solid-waste disposal facilities. The dataset also includes indicators distinguishing monthly and annual reporting periods and whether a site is in an emergency or post-emergency situation.
The data originated from WASH reporting collected through the UNHCR Information Management System (IRIS) and formerly made available through the UNHCR WASH dashboard. The published package provides the historical data in a structured dataset and documents the variables and their definitions. The indicators include measures of WASH service availability, water quantity, water quality, sanitation, hygiene, household practices, and refugee populations. Because the original dashboard has been retired, the current package is a fixed historical snapshot and cannot be regenerated from the original source.
