To provide data on heritage sites around the world protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.
Data consists of: geographical details, short description of the site, justification of the classification of the site in the World Heritage List, date of inscription, secondary dates, date or period of inscription on the danger list, surface area of the site, criteria met by the site, category of the site, final category of the site and transboundary details of the site. World heritage sites are categorized as: cultural sites, endangered cultural sites, mixed sites, natural site and natural site in danger.
Data is obtained through survey and monitoring.
